Health and justice

In a nation that claims to be the bastion of democracy and hope for the humanity, I wonder why is justice and health care are the two most expensive things. It just came to my mind because of recent events I've seen. Both to Indians in the USA. Early this week was by a forward from a friend of mine calling for donation for a graduate student injured in Georgia and the other my friend being implicated in a case.

When I read the news about the graduate student, my heart went out. When I saw the number of people who donated money for his health, it was a bitter sweet moment.Sweet to know that generosity and compassion in people are still alive and bitter to see that so many people had to contribute for one person's health...which should be a basic human right of the individual.

The other, my friend who was falsely accused in a case. For no apparent folly of his, now the onus to prove that he is innocent is on him. When he spoke to attorneys, the quotes came in thousands and thousands...

Come to think of it health and justice are for sale. They are in the market place and only people who can afford it, can have it. Who ever can't afford it... can't do much for you guys! It is no longer a human right but a luxury not many can afford. If this is the bation of democracy and hope for humanity, we the people are in a very very sorry state.
